Most of these HOWTOS are extraordinarily outdated. If it’s older than 2 years, then it typically didn’t keep up with the Linux progress. TLDP.org has quite a few current HOWTOs however…

The name of the *nix windowing system is X Window, without ’s’.

Thanks.
Linux seems to be for programmers to endlessly tinker with.
Out of the box if it suits your needs it is fine.
But to do anything to it.
Now I know how 75 year old ladies with Windows feel.
Anything to answer questions simply and well is highly usefull and should be commended.
Linux for ordinary computer users.
